The Youth Leadership Academy is a comprehensive program designed to empower young people ages 14-24 with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to become effective advocates for change in their communities.
Program Components
Leadership Training
Participants learn essential leadership skills including:
- Public speaking and communication
- Community organizing strategies
- Coalition building
- Project management
- Conflict resolution
- Media literacy and advocacy
Civic Education
We provide in-depth education on:
- South Carolina and U.S. government structure
- Civil rights history and current issues
- Policy analysis and advocacy
- Community needs assessment
- Social justice movements
Mentorship
Each participant is paired with an experienced community leader or organizer who provides guidance, support, and connections throughout the program and beyond.
Hands-On Projects
Youth participants work in teams to identify community issues and develop and implement their own advocacy campaigns, giving them real-world organizing experience.
Program Details
The academy runs year-round with weekly meetings, special workshops, and summer intensives. Participants who complete the program receive a certificate and are invited to join our Youth Advisory Council.
